About Sauna Makassar: the workshop behind the cabins

A workshop in the city, not a sales office

We chose Panakkukang for the geography. Tanjung Bunga, Hertasning, Pettarani, Daya and Sungguminasa are twenty to forty minutes away outside peak hours, Maros thirty to forty by toll road, Malino a ninety-minute climb. That radius changes how a project runs: panels are cut and dry-assembled at the workshop, then driven to site on installation day. No crates, no port queue, no airfare.

The core team is small and permanent: carpenters who build sandwich panels and plunge tubs every working day, an electrician for heater and chiller circuits, and a project manager who writes the quote and holds the schedule. One project stays with one manager, so the person who called you on day one stands beside you at the test heating.

The standards we apply to every cabin

• A wall in a fixed order: frame, 50 mm rockwool, aluminium foil vapour barrier, 20 mm ventilation gap, then cedar, spruce or thermowood.
• Stated working ranges: dry sauna 70-90 degrees at 10-20 per cent humidity, steam room 40-45 degrees near saturation, infrared 45-60 degrees, cold plunge 3-15 degrees.
• Western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood inside, aspen or abachi benches; ulin and bengkirai only on outdoor decking.
• SiHF heat-resistant cable, a dedicated breaker and an ELCB on every unit, with the PLN calculation given before the quote is signed.
• Safety as standard: heater guard, 8 mm tempered glass, calculated ventilation, and a test heating with the owner present.
• The same terms for everyone: free survey, a visualisation, an itemised quote, a 50 per cent deposit, two years on the structure and factory cover on the heater.

There is also a short list of things we decline, because declining them is cheaper than repairing them later: cabins without a vapour barrier and ventilation gap, outdoor cabins without a roof, local hardwood inside a cabin, heaters hung off a household circuit. Who we build for in Makassar

Three groups keep the workshop busy. Family businesses in Panakkukang, Tamalanrea and Tanjung Bunga, where the house is a meeting place and the sauna is sized for a household of eight or ten. Hotels and venues near Losari, which need a commercial sauna for hotels and gyms with a real duty cycle and a contractor who can return next week. And gyms, clinics and sports academies, which arrive asking about recovery and leave with a plunge first, a cabin second.

Working from Makassar also makes us the practical option further east, since this is the port through which almost everything for eastern Indonesia moves. Outside our normal radius we quote travel as a separate line rather than folding it into the timber. Custom sauna Indonesia work is only worth doing when someone can come back and service it.
