At this level, a custom sauna in Makassar is less a kit than a small design project: full-height glass on tempered panels, onyx or natural stone lit from behind, thermowood lining the interior. We build these for seafront houses, hotel spas and venues, at an indicative IDR 110-290 million depending on capacity, with three to six weeks covering everything from the first drawing to the finish.
What actually changes when a sauna is built to measure
We start from the room you already have, not a catalogue size. Ceiling height, window line, the view outside - the cabin gets drawn into all of it. In a Tanjung Bunga house that usually means a glass wall facing the strait; in a Panakkukang villa, a recessed cabin off the pool deck; in a hotel near Losari, a room that has to photograph well and still survive a sixteen-hour duty cycle.
- Tempered glass at 8 mm, on one wall, two, or three, always with a frameless door.
- Thermowood or select red cedar inside, aspen or abachi benches on concealed fixings, and lighting that stays out of sight.
- Onyx or natural stone lit from behind the heater, and a floor-standing Harvia unit when there is room to walk around it.
- Digital or app control, a weekly timer, and audio wired in if the cabin sits inside a bigger wellness zone.
This is the point where a made-to-measure sauna stops being marketing language: every panel, bench and pane of glass is drawn for one specific address.
Outdoor cabins and rooftops along the coast
On the seafront side of the city, an outdoor cabin is both the most requested build and the hardest to get right. Rain comes in sideways from December through April, and salt air works away at every metal fixing in Tanjung Bunga and around CPI. Our response is a cabin with its own pitched roof and overhang, stainless fittings throughout, a ventilated cavity behind the cladding, and a covered step for changing.
Decking is the one spot where local hardwood earns its place - ulin or bengkirai underfoot, never inside the cabin itself. An outdoor build runs an indicative IDR 80-150 million, installed over one to two weeks. Take the same cabin up into Gowa, past Sungguminasa on the Malino road, and it works differently again: at 10-16 degrees, the sauna itself becomes the reason for the drive.
Power for a bigger cabin or a full wellness zone
The seat count sets the wiring. A six-seat 2.4x2 m room runs an 8 kW heater on 11,000 VA; ten seats at 3.5x2.6 m move to 10.5 kW on three phase; twelve at 4x3 m take 12 kW; a twenty-seat club room needs two 10.5 kW heaters side by side. Add a plunge chiller and the two loads must never start together, so each gets its own circuit and the compressor a soft starter.
Most hotels around Losari and buildings on Jalan Pengayoman already have three-phase supply. Large houses in Panakkukang and Tamalanrea usually need a PLN upgrade to 11,000 VA first, paid by the owner. For reference, a commercial sauna for a hotel or gym starts at an indicative IDR 150 million, and a combined sauna, plunge and jacuzzi zone at IDR 250 million.
From drawing to finished room
After the survey you receive a drawing of the cabin in your own room together with real samples: a thermowood offcut, the onyx slab, a length of bench profile. Nothing is cut until both the drawing and the line-by-line quote carry your signature. Fabrication and finishing take three to six weeks, and the people who build the panels are the people who install them.

Questions we get in Makassar
Does a bigger, glazed cabin cost much more to run than a plain timber one?
A little. Full glass loses heat faster than a sandwich wall, so a glazed six-person cabin typically adds another 15-20 per cent to the running cost of an equivalent plain-panel room, still well under a million rupiah a month for normal family use.
Does sourcing onyx or a particular stone slow the build down?
It can add a week or two if the exact slab is not already in the city, since stone is one of the few materials we do not keep in stock ourselves. We confirm availability before quoting, so it is priced into the schedule rather than discovered halfway through.
For a hotel with several rooms, do you keep spares locally for faster fixes?
Yes. Once we have built for a property, we hold matching heater elements, controllers and glass hardware for it in Panakkukang, precisely so a fault in one room does not turn into a week of downtime waiting on a part from outside the city.
Is this only for houses, or do private clubs commission these too?
Clubs and membership venues are a growing share of this particular product, usually paired with a plunge and sized for a rotating group rather than one family, though the design process and the materials on offer stay the same. Start the same way through the contact page.
