Sauna and ice bath prices in Makassar
These are the figures our Panakkukang project managers work from when they write a sauna price for Makassar, drawn from three years and more than 100 projects: IDR 60-120 million for a four-seat 2x2 m dry sauna, 15-35 million for a prefab cabin, 30-70 million for infrared, 50-100 million for a 2x2 m steam room and 45-90 million for a cold plunge with its chiller. All are indicative rupiah and include installation by our own crew anywhere in Makassar, Gowa and Maros.

These are ballpark figures - the free site survey is what turns them into a fixed quote.
What pushes a quote up or down
- Size. A two-person box at 1.5x1.2 m and an eight-person room at 3x2.4 m are built from the same details, just more of them - more panel, more bench, a bigger heater.
- Timber grade. Pinewood is the entry point, red cedar the middle ground, thermowood and select cedar the top end. Aspen or abachi benches come with any of the three.
- Heater brand and control. Harvia, Sawo or Tylo, run from a wall panel or an app; a floor-standing unit you can walk around costs more than one mounted flush to the wall.
- Glass and stone. A full 8 mm tempered glass wall with backlit onyx behind the heater typically adds 15-30 per cent over a plain timber panel.
- The electrical run. Wiring from the main board up to, say, the third floor of a Hertasning cluster house, heat-rated cable, its own breaker, plus an ELCB on the circuit. Any PLN upgrade to 7,700-11,000 VA is billed to the owner separately.
- Where the job is. No travel charge anywhere in Makassar city, Sungguminasa or Maros; the climb up to Malino is the one spot that carries a single materials-transport line.
- What the room looks like now. An open rooftop needs a roof built over it first, an old bathroom needs its floor lifted so water actually reaches the drain, and a garden needs decking laid over a light foundation.
The bill after installation
Expect a dry sauna to add IDR 200,000-500,000 a month at three or four family sessions a week, an infrared cabin IDR 100,000-250,000, a steam room IDR 300,000-600,000 with water included, and a cold plunge IDR 300,000-700,000, since the chiller earns its keep hardest on dry-season afternoons pushing 32-33 degrees. Those numbers assume a household tariff; a gym running the room most of the day will see a noticeably bigger line item.
Upkeep is light. Heater stones want replacing every one to two years, a bench gets a light sanding annually, and the steam generator asks for a descale every two to three months, with the plunge side needing nothing more than a monthly filter rinse. Before you settle on a figure, it is worth putting the dry sauna, infrared cabin and ice bath side by side, because the cheapest one to install is not always the cheapest one to keep running.
Questions we get in Makassar
How much extra does a commercial-size heater add to the electricity bill?
A gym or hotel room running an 8-12 kW heater for twelve hours or more a day sits well above the household figures quoted for a family sauna, typically several million rupiah a month once the duty cycle is factored in. We size the tariff and the breaker together at survey stage so the number is not a surprise on the first bill.
Does the price change for a hard-to-reach spot, like Malino or an upper floor?
The cabin price itself does not move. What changes is a single materials-transport line for the Malino climb, and for a walk-up apartment we account for how panels and the tub travel up the stairwell before quoting the installation days.
My heater is old - can you still get parts for it, or does it have to be Harvia?
We keep Harvia and Sawo elements, stones and controllers on the shelf because that is what we install, but we have sourced parts for older Tylo and generic units too. Send a photo of the nameplate on the heater through the contact page and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing.
Is a chiller cheaper to run than buying ice for a gym-sized tub?
For anything used daily, yes, by a wide margin. A one HP chiller on a club-sized tub runs a predictable few hundred thousand rupiah a month; buying and hauling enough ice to hold the same volume cold several times a day costs more within the first few weeks and never gets any easier.
