IDR 45-90 millionWhy a sauna makes sense in a city this hot
Makassar sits between 27 and 29 degrees for most of the year, humidity hovers around 80 per cent, and the wet season from December to April can drop more than 300 mm in a month. That reverses the usual order of a wellness room. In cooler cities the sauna is bought first; here the cold plunge is what a household asks about after a morning run along the Losari promenade, and the dry sauna becomes the evening habit. Gowa is the exception: above Malino the thermometer falls to 10-16 degrees and the timber cabin is the main event again.
House types then decide the specification. The three-storey clusters of Panakkukang, Hertasning and Pettarani stand on narrow plots and usually carry 5,500 VA, so we either fit an infrared sauna that runs on 1.7-2.4 kW without touching the meter, or we cost the PLN upgrade into the quote on the day of the survey. Seafront houses in Tanjung Bunga and around CPI have flat roofs that suit an outdoor sauna cabin with its own pitched cover, while the wider plots in Tamalanrea, BTP, Daya and Sudiang leave room for a cabin and a cold plunge on the same deck.
The third reason is logistics. Makassar is the transhipment point for eastern Indonesia, which is excellent for cargo leaving the city and expensive for anything arriving as a finished cabin: a builder in Java ships panels by sea for five to nine days, adds freight per kilogram, then bills flights and hotel nights for two technicians. We cut and assemble in Panakkukang, keep Harvia and Sawo heaters, chillers and spare parts on the shelf, and return ourselves for service. Hotels near Losari, venues along the Tanjung Bunga road and gyms on Jalan Pengayoman have settled on the same arrangement: built locally, serviced locally.
Sauna Makassar is a sauna builder in Makassar working for family houses, hotels, event venues, clinics and gyms across the city, Gowa and Maros. Indicative prices: a dry sauna from IDR 60 million, infrared from IDR 30 million, a steam room from IDR 50 million, an ice bath with chiller from IDR 45 million, installed in two to four weeks.
How a project runs, from first message to handover
The sequence is identical for a house in Hertasning and a gym in Pettarani; only the scale changes.
Send your district, the rough size of the room and what you have in mind. A project manager calls back the same day, between 08:00 and 20:00 WITA.
The corner of the room, the rooftop or the garden, plus one photo of the PLN meter. That is enough for a first range.
A technician measures the space and checks supply, water route and ventilation. Free across Makassar, Gowa and Maros.
A drawing of the cabin or plunge standing in your own room, a line-by-line quote and a schedule.
Once the quote is agreed, panels, benches and doors are made in Panakkukang. Heaters and chillers come off our own shelf.
On site: 2-4 weeks for a home sauna, 1-2 days for infrared, 1-2 weeks for a cold plunge, 4-8 weeks for a commercial room.
We bring the cabin to working temperature and the plunge to its set point while you are standing there, before anything is signed.
The structure is covered for two years, the heater for one to two years by the factory, and the crew that returns is ours.
Four details that decide whether a cabin survives the coast
Frame, 50 mm rockwool, aluminium foil vapour barrier, a 20 mm ventilation gap, then cedar. Leave out the foil or the gap and 80 per cent humidity finds the cavity within three years.
A 6-9 kW heater needs 7,700-11,000 VA. Houses on 5,500 VA take an infrared cabin at 1.7-2.4 kW, or a PLN upgrade. Heat-resistant SiHF cable, a dedicated breaker and an ELCB are always in the quote.
Larch or thermowood tub with a liner, a half to one HP plunge chiller holding 3-15 degrees, filtration with ozone or UV, and a drain that works.
Western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood inside, aspen or abachi benches. Ulin and bengkirai stay on the outdoor decking and never enter the cabin.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a sauna cost in Makassar?
A custom dry sauna of 2x2 m for four people runs at an indicative IDR 60-120 million, an economy cabin from IDR 40 million, a prefab cabin IDR 15-35 million fitted, and an infrared cabin IDR 30-70 million. Every figure stays indicative until the survey; the full list is on the sauna price page.
Can a house on 5,500 VA have a sauna?
Yes. An infrared cabin at 1.7-2.4 kW runs on 5,500 VA as it stands, and a two-person dry sauna with a 3.6 kW heater fits if the rest of the load is managed. Anything from 6 kW upwards needs a PLN upgrade to 7,700-11,000 VA, paid by the owner and calculated before you commit.
How long does the work take?
A home sauna takes two to four weeks on site plus one to two weeks of material supply; infrared one to two days, a steam room three to five weeks, a cold plunge or outdoor cabin one to two weeks, a commercial room four to eight. Panels are made in Panakkukang, so nothing waits on a vessel.
How cold does a home ice bath really get?
A half to one HP chiller holds water between 3 and 15 degrees, depending on tub volume. For daily family use we set 8-12 degrees; club athletes ask for 6-10. Build details are on the ice bath Makassar page.
Do you cover Gowa and Maros?
Yes. Sungguminasa, Samata and Pallangga are on the regular round, as is Maros up to the airport side, and the survey stays free. Malino visits are combined with an installation trip so the journey is not billed twice.
What happens after installation, warranty and service?
The structure is covered for two years and Harvia, Sawo or Tylo heaters carry one to two years of factory warranty, with spare elements and stones on our own shelf. Because the crew lives here, a service call is measured in days, not in flights from Jakarta.
